Interactive Literacy Activities

Standard 1 / Indicator 1.1

  • Adults and children will participate together in regularly scheduled activities.

  • Engage in regularly scheduled opportunities for literacy related parent-child interaction.

Materials Needed:  

Pen or pencil

Lesson:

Interactive Literacy Activities promote literacy and allow you to spend quality time with your child.

Interactive Literacy Activities can accomplish many things.

  • Use the time with your child(ren) to teach them.

  • Relate the activity to other related topics.

  • Talk to your child and encourage communication. 

  • Allow them be independent to develop their own skills.

  • Learn how your child thinks and communicates.

  • Spend time with your child.

Some Interactive Literacy Activities are offered at Literacy Centers in your area.  You can attend one of these activities, or you can do one at home.

Go to the Interactive Literacy Activity area of the Family Literacy website.  You will find many activities that you can do with your child. (http://famlies.owc.edu/parents/ILA/index.htm)

You can also find a list of “At-Home Activities” to print.

Choose one of the activities to do.  When you have completed it, do the assessment below.

Assessment:

Print or email the assessment to your mentor.
